Blacksmith / Mastersmith(lv70+)

Written by PlayPost Team from ROO Discord Tavern

The Merchant Job is known for being challenging to play in the early version of the original PC Ragnarok. However, even though it can be difficult to level up initially, Merchants rely on party support to farm levels. But once they reach the later stages of the game, they become extremely powerful. They have skills that deal significant damage and are unmatched by other jobs.

Now, let me introduce you to how Merchants are played and what strategies you can use when playing as one.

1.Overview of the Merchant Job

The Merchant Job in Ragnarok Origin is known for its powerful physical attacks and impressive speed. They have skills that can buff both themselves and their party members, making them highly sought after in party activities and boss hunts. One of their notable skills is "Weapon Perfection," which allows them to ignore the size penalty when attacking, making them particularly effective against bosses.

The primary stats for Merchants are Strength (Str) and Agility (Agi). The gameplay mechanics are straightforward, and their signature skills include Cart Revolution and Discount, which reduces the cost of items bought from NPCs. There are various playstyles for Merchants, but the two most popular ones are the powerful Cart-focused Blacksmith build and the fast-hitting, critical-focused build.

Another viable option is the Crafter build, which focuses on Luk and Dex stats rather than pure brute force, aiming to craft and sell items for profit. This article will introduce you to both playstyles, discussing stat allocation and skill choices. However, keep in mind that these are just basic guidelines, and you can adjust them according to your preferred playstyle.

2.Advantages - Disadvantages of the Merchant in Ragnarok Origin:

Merchant is a profession that is highly sought after in parties due to its diverse supportive buffs. They are particularly valuable in boss hunting scenarios where their buffing abilities are not dependent on the target's size.

You need to invest a relatively high amount of capital in the early stages of playing

Being a Merchant in Ragnarok Origin is the ability to craft elemental weapons

It is a powerful Job for late-game. However, it can be challenging to play in the early stages. High-damage becomes available in the later levels, around level 70.

Merchant has AoE Stun skill that is suitable for tackling difficult dungeons or engaging in PvP battles.

3.Skill Build for Merchant before becoming a Blacksmith and Mastersmith

In the early stages of playing as a Merchant, focusing on the Cart Revolution and Slamming Smash skills is crucial. Maximize their levels to fully utilize their effectiveness. An easy trick to enhance Cart Revolution is to use the item Heavy Iron (Steel). The skill's power is determined by the weight of the cart, so equipping Heavy Iron will greatly boost its strength. Purchase around four Heavy Irons from the NPC Kafra Shop in any town for 10,000 Eden Coins. As for skill progression, focus on essential skills that are frequently used, as they form the foundation for all future playstyles. This approach allows for faster leveling up.

  • Cart Revolution Lv.1

  • Slamming Smash Lv.5

  • Enlarge Weight Limit Lv.10

  • Change Cart Lv.10

  • Discount Lv.10

  • Distribute the remaining points as desired

4.Upgrading Blacksmith's Cart Build

For the Cart build, blacksmiths can play in PvE, PvP, and GvG. It's important to focus on upgrading Strength (Str) to increase attack power and meet the conditions of Cart Revolution's damage formula (which scales with Str). Agility (Agi) is also important to increase attack speed (ASPD) for quick skill use. For general PvE monster farming, allocate points into Str and Agi. For those interested in PvP/GvG, allocate some points from Agi into Vitality (Vit) to increase HP and overall survivability.

Once blacksmiths have transitioned into their Job, they gain access to a variety of skills that provide buffs to their own stats and support their party members. These buffs can be used to increase overall damage output and improve the efficiency of party play.

Strength (Str) can be allocated to a lesser extent. In the early stages, you'll still rely on skills from your cart to farm and level up. Once you reach level 50 and become a Blacksmith, you'll start to see the effects of your build.

7.Weapons for Merchant/Blacksmith/Mastersmith:

In the early stages, as a Merchant, you'll want to rely on items that enhance your Strength (Str) as they can be used in any build and gameplay mode. One recommended weapon is the Orchic Axe, which provides ATK +141 and Str +2. However, if you're playing a fast attack build, it's advised to use the weapon called Cart Termination (Smasher) instead. This build focuses on farming small to medium-sized monsters as it may not be as effective against larger ones.

Once you transition into a Blacksmith, during the level 50-69 range where you encounter a lot of Demon and Undead monsters, you can use the Golden Hammer. This weapon adds ATK +197 and deals Holy elemental damage, making it more effective against Undead and Demon monsters with a 20% damage increase.

Once you reach level 70, it's recommended to switch to the Vecer Axe. This weapon greatly enhances the damage of your Cart Termination skill, as its power scales with the weight of the cart. It also increases the attack range of your weapon. Alternatively, if you're playing a fast attack build, you can choose to use the Heart Breaker, which provides ATK +282, Str +10, Cri +10, Aspd +8%, and has a 5% chance to automatically cast Hammer Fall Lv.3.

During the level 50-70 range, here are some recommended equipment sets:

  • Tidal Shoes: Provides water resistance.

The Wool Scarf has a special effect that grants an additional 3% physical damage when worn together with Tidal Shoes. This set combination can provide both stat bonuses and elemental resistance, making it suitable for combat-oriented gameplay.

Once you reach level 80, you can switch to using the Tyr's Blessing set, which consists of the following items:

  1. Tyr's Armor: Increases Max HP by +200 and adds 5% damage to your attacks.

  2. Vali's Cloak: Enhances STR based on the number of successful attacks.
