Crusader #2

Written by McFacts from ROO Discord Tavern

Crusader is the second job for the Swordsman in progression path and has an array of arsenals that make them a formidable force in every undertaking.

In summary, Crusaders are versatile holy warriors with different ways to play them. From being a tank that can withstand great damage to bringing nearby enemies to their knees with holy magical damage, you will be able to play them differently!

This guide is written to accommodate a player who will be investing in the game moderately, and you will have to adjust accordingly depending on whether you are playing as a free-to-play (F2P) or a heavy spender.

Getting Started: Swordsman Phase

As a Crusader, most of the skills do not rely on any Swordsman skill except for the full tank build, which requires Provoke as its fundamental skill. Here is the rough skill distribution recommendation as a Swordsman to maximize DPS so you can job change into a Crusader ASAP:

The Essentials

Bash (Level 10)

Your main skill to deal DPS for grinding purposes.

Fatal Blow (Level 5)

Gives Bash a chance to Stun enemies and avoid taking damage.

Sword Mastery (Level 10)

Used to increase your damage when you wield a 1H or 2H sword. You can freely distribute the remaining 15 points to skills of your choice that you may find useful to your adventuring journey.

AGI

Responsible for attacking faster.

STR

Increases most of your offensive physical skills and Auto-attack damage

The suggested stat distribution would be 2 AGI : 1 STR or max AGI before you invest in STR to capitalize on the faster attack during the course of your character’s Combat Duration and Monster Annihilation grinding.

At the Swordsman stage, you would want to go the AA (auto attack) route and pump your stats into AGI for faster hits to finish off your targets during grinding.

Your weapon of choice should be a 1H sword.

Unleashing the Power of Your Builds

Upon reaching at least Base Level 40 and Job Level 40, you can choose to proceed with Crusader in your job progression.

At this stage, you can choose to build your Crusader in 3 ways, which are:

  1. Tanky Shielder

  2. Physical Punishing [Holy Cross]

  3. Devastating Magical [Grand Cross]

1. Tanky Shielder

This build focuses on being the lead damage taker of your party with the massive HP and defensive skills at your disposal. Most of your skills revolve around Shields as they're both your defensive and offensive equipment.

As the Tanky Shielder has specific skills that benefit this build best, the required Swordsman skills are as follows:

Increase Recuperative Power (Level 10)

Gains Small HP regenerated every 10 seconds during combat and increases HP Recovery by using items like potion.

Provoke (Level 10)

Needed to maintain aggro on monsters.

Endure (Level 10)

Prevents your character from being stunlocked by fast attacksThe remaining 10 skill points can be allocated to any skill of your choice, with suggestions to go Bash (Level 5) and Fatal Blow (Level 5) to add the Stun effect to your Bash.

Riding (Level 1)

Needed to ride the PecoPeco combat mount.

Cavalier Mastery (Level 5)

Increases movement while riding the PecoPeco as your job mount.

Smite (Level 5)

One of your active skills that used to keep aggro on your target, and a prerequisite for the Protection skill.

Protection (Level 5)

Causes all aggro you generate from monsters to be x8 more.

Faith (Level 9)

A permanent buff that increases your Max HP and reduces incoming Holy damage.

Providence (Level 5)

A prerequisite for Auto Guard skill that reduces incoming Demon and Holy damage for you and your party.

Auto Guard (Level 10)

An active buff to give your character a chance to avoid physical damage taken.

VIT

Prioritize increasing this stat as it gives you your overall defensive stats such as HP, DEF and MDEF.

INT (Optional)

Increases your MDEF as well as your Max SP to cast more skills.

The suggested stat distribution would be maxing your VIT before investing in any other stats. You can choose to pump STR to increase your damage instead of INT, or increase your DEX so your skills won’t miss on the enemy.

At level 50, you should utilize Long Horn as your main-hand. If you are interested in dealing more damage, the Cross Shield will also increase your Smite damage. Alternatively, any defensive shield like the Cracked Buckler will also complement this build.

2. Physical Punishing [Holy Cross]

This skill is an extension of the Auto-Attack build of your Swordsman by replacing your normal attacks with a powerful attack called Holy Cross. Holy Cross is a forced Holy elemental physical attack that cannot be converted into any other elements. Therefore, you will always deal holy elemental damage when attacking with this skill.

Riding (Level 1)

Needed to ride the PecoPeco as your job mount.

Cavalier Mastery (Level 5)

Increases MSPD while riding the PecoPeco.

Demon Bane (Level 5, 9 or 10)

Passive permanent ATK and DEF stats, boosted when fighting Demon and Undead-type monsters.

Holy Cross (Level 10)

Your main source of offensive attack for this build, deals even more damage when wielding 2H Lance.

Spear Mastery (Level 10)

Permanently increase your ATK when wielding Lances, even more while riding your PecoPeco.

Faith (Level 4, 5 or 9)

A permanent buff that increases your Max HP and reduces incoming Holy damage.

As Holy Cross deals even more damage while wielding a 2H Lance, the Magic Spear is your go-to weapon to maximize the damage output.

AGI

Responsible for reducing Holy Cross's Global Cooldown so you can reuse it faster.

STR

Increases the damage of your Holy Cross.

The suggested stat distribution would be 2 AGI : 1 STR or max AGI before you invest in STR to be able to cast your Holy Cross more often. Any remaining stats once both AGI and STR have been maxed can be invested in DEX to increase your HIT rate or VIT for better defense.

3. Devastating Magical [Grand Cross]

Unlike the Tanky Shielder and the Physical Punishing Holy Cross build, this build focuses on dealing AoE magic damage by the Grand Cross skill. While output damage is considered magic, the skill takes into account both your ATK and MATK stats into the damage calculation.

Riding (Level 1)

Needed to ride the PecoPeco.

Cavalier Mastery (Level 5)

Increases MSPD while riding the PecoPeco.

Demon Bane (Level 9)

Passive permanent ATK and DEF stats, boosted when fighting Demon and Undead-type monsters.

Holy Cross (Level 5)

A prerequisite skill before learning Grand Cross.

Grand Cross (Level 10)

Your main offensive skill for this build.

[Optional] Spear Mastery (Level 10)

Permanently increases your ATK when wielding Lances, even more while riding your PecoPeco.[Optional] Heal (Level 10)

Used for self-sustaining purposes when no source of healing is available.

STR

Needed to increase Grand Cross skill damage.

INT

Needed to increase Grand Cross skill damage. After maxing both STR and INT, you can invest in VIT to increase your overall survivability.

Brionac is the essential weapon for the Grand Cross build to further increase the skills damage.

That is all for the quick guide to playing as a Crusader. Good luck and have fun, adventurers!
